Terms and Conditions – Commissions
1. About Folktail Taxidermy
Folktail Taxidermy creates bespoke taxidermy and memorial art pieces using ethically sourced specimens. Each piece is created with care, respect, and an understanding of the emotional importance these works may hold.
2. Nature of Taxidermy & Associated Risks
Taxidermy is an organic and unpredictable process. While every effort is made to preserve specimens to a high professional standard, issues may arise that are outside the Artist’s control.
These may include (but are not limited to):
- The specimen being unsuitable for taxidermy
- Hair slip, fragile skin, or decomposition
- Complications during tanning, drying, or mounting
If a specimen cannot be safely or successfully preserved, Folktail Taxidermy will notify the Owner as soon as possible. Where appropriate, alternative options may be offered, such as skull cleaning or memorial keepsake pieces. Refunds are not guaranteed.
3. Artistic Interpretation
All work produced by Folktail Taxidermy is a commissioned art piece.
While reference photographs and requests are welcomed, the finished work will be an artistic likeness, not a perfect replica. Individual features may differ from personal memory or expectation.
Clients are encouraged to view taxidermy as a commissioned, touchable portrait, rather than the pet itself.
4. Deposits & Payments
- A non-refundable deposit is required to secure a commission.
- Full payment must be completed before release of any finished work.
- Payment deadlines will be specified during the commission process.
Failure to make payment or maintain contact within 60 days may result in termination of the commission. In such cases, the specimen or finished piece may be sold to a third party to recover losses.
5. Timeframes & Communication
Most commissions take between 3 months and 12 months to complete. Timeframes are estimates only and may vary depending on specimen condition, process requirements, and workload.
Updates will be provided when meaningful progress has been made. Clients are kindly asked to allow reasonable time between updates.
6. Collection, Storage & Abandonment
Once notified that a piece is complete, the Owner has 40 days to collect it.
- After 40 days, a £50 late collection fee will apply
- Storage fees of £10 per week will then be charged
- Maximum storage period is 60 days
If the piece is not collected within this period, the commission will be terminated and the piece may be sold to a third party.
7. Optional Services
Cremation
Cremation is available at an additional cost via a third-party provider. All cremation fees must be paid upfront and are non-refundable.
Larger species or dog breeds may require a mandatory disposal fee, with or without ashes returned.
Cremation must be requested at the time of commission and cannot be added later.
Skull Cleaning
Skull cleaning is available as an additional service. Due to natural factors, Folktail Taxidermy cannot guarantee the presence of all teeth or the absence of damage.
Skull cleaning may take between 2 months and 2 years depending on the specimen and may be shipped separately from the finished taxidermy.
This service must be requested at the start of the commission and cannot be added later.
8. Ownership & Risk
Ownership of any commissioned work remains with Folktail Taxidermy until full payment has been received and the piece has been collected or shipped.
Folktail Taxidermy is not responsible for damage once the piece has left the Artist’s care.
9. Website Content & Imagery
All images, text, and content on this website are the property of Folktail Taxidermy and may not be reproduced without permission.
Finished works may be photographed and shared for portfolio or promotional purposes unless otherwise agreed in writing.
